GIA Business of Second Life™ Fashion Question #1: Who are the money-makers of the Second Life™ fashion industry?

Posted in Featured News, MV-SL-Fashion @ 1:22 pm on October 24th, 2011 by Patty Cortes | 454 views

Business of Second Life™ Fashion Question is a new weekly column here on GLANCE International Agency‘s blog. It’s all about sharing ideas and opinions with fellow GLANCE International Agency’s Community Members on the business side of the Second Life™  fashion industry. While geared towards the professionals of the Second Life™ fashion community (models, designers, agencies staff members, fashion stores’ staff members, magazines’ staff members, etc.), everybody is welcome to participate! Each week – every Monday – we’ll come up with a hot SL Fashion business topic – you can even suggest the topics of your choice. Join the fashion discussion and let us know what you think of the current week’s topic in the comments! Your opinion counts.

GLANCE International Agency Business of Second Life fashion question Who makes money in the Second Life fashion industry 450x391 GIA Business of Second Life™ Fashion Question #1: Who are the money makers of the Second Life™ fashion industry?

Have you ever wondered…?

I run GLANCE International Agency since August 2008 along with an awesome group of men and women who each bring their very own unique and valuable skills to the agency. Some of us had a meeting yesterday: Amalia Foxtrot (GIA Head Blogger and GLANCE Magazine Head Stylist), Honey Bender (Faster Pussycat – kickass designer – and GLANCE Magazine stylist), Princess Pierterson (GLANCE Magazine fashion stylist), Trage Cline (GLANCE Model Academy Education Manager), Violet Batriani (GIA Blogger – chic chick!) and me (Patty Cortes.)

Among upcoming projects for the agency, we discussed the latest trends of the SL Fashion industry. We talked about meshes and some said that they love it and others expressed interest in learning how to create them.

In short, it was fun (these ladies just rock and I’m lucky to work with them.)

Something I love about meeting them, is that it always generates interesting discussions. We often realize that while we all are SL Fashion community members and professionals, we do not have the same vision of the SL Fashion industry. It is fascinating to get to know each other better and exchange ideas. And we would love to explore some of these topics further with you.

Indeed, the discussion we had yesterday quickly moved to the money-making side of the SL Fashion industry. One would say SL fashion models make the money; others would say SL fashion designers make the money and some others would say SL fashion agencies make the money. For each point there were valuable arguments – and replies on how they were not so valuable (it was a hot debate, people.)

  • There was a point when the discussion would evoke “famous” models and how they guarantee money to fashion designers, whenever they are promoted through brands, so they supposedly receive money (linden dollars that is) and tons of free gifts in return (worth thousands of linden dollars) – it was the argument of those who believe SL fashion models make the money.
  • An other discussion point was events considered as “huge” by the modeling community, where the events’ organizers were charging to feature designers – it was the argument of those who believe SL fashion agencies make the money.
  • Finally, designers are supposedly hiring “famous” models and “famous” agencies to generate money – it was the argument of those who believe SL fashion designers make the money.

So after yesterday’s meeting, we were wondering what you, as a valuable SL Fashion Community member would say about this. GLANCE International Agency’s Business of Second Life™ Fashion red hot question #1 is…

Who do YOU think really makes big bucks in the SL fashion industry?

What do you think, personally? Your opinion matters to us!

Leave us a comment below on who you think makes money in the SL fashion industry and why you think so.

We look forward to hearing from you!

FR3 450x337 GIA Style Card // GLANCE Front Row Looks #3 and #4 Featuring KIM BodySuits Fashion and Bent! poses

Hello everybody, I hope you are having a nice week-end! I’m about to present you my third and fourth looks based on GLANCE Front Row exclusives.

If you visited the store KIM BodySuits Fashion in the past, you already know that designer Kimberly Flagon usually produces tight, short and sexy dresses for the female avatar. For GLANCE Front Row event, Kimberly alternated her usual style with a more urban chic look, an ensemble called “Paqs.” The top is an asymmetrical black shirt with a fluffy, sculpted right sleeve associated with capris pants, made in a black and red tartan texture. The skin I’m presenting is an unreleased skin by Essenza Lane, creator of [TBS] skins. It is called “[TBS] Jenny Mk1 v2″ and will be made available in-world within the next few days!

To create an urban look, I picked the “Action Unisex Skater Bag“ by MarilynMonroe Munro which presents a sculpted skateboard attached to the meticulously crafted bag. I also decided to go for the high quality ballet flats called “Rosario” in black, available at the store {Cherry} and created by London Dailey. The perfect hairstyle for this look was found at one of my favorite stores in SL, Epoque Hair, designed by Vintage McMillan. The hair cut I’m wearing is called “Wild” and is available in 5 shades from black to light grey through a fun hair color HUD in-world.

The second look is more traditional to the spirit of KIM BodySuits Fashion couture house. Indeed, the ultra-short red dress reveals your belly and underlines your best features sensually. The bust presents a black see-through fabric enhancing the cleavage. The thin band covers partially the belly and ends up covering the hips. The black and red hues make the ensemble sparkle. To contrast with the clubwear style, I decided to go with a classy pearl necklace by Paper Couture, along with a pearl bracelet designed by Storm Babeli, part of the **Purple Rose Black Oceans of Pearls Cameo set**. The low-rise leggings “K&CO – Striped Two Faced Leggings – Black&Night” by Kenzie Craven fitted perfectly with the skirt and offered a nice urban touch to the sultry mini-dress. Finally, I chose the “Military Jacket” in black denim by Friday. There… Ready for a fun night out!

FR2 450x329 GIA Style Card // My GLANCE Front Row Look #2

Happy thursday! It’s time for my second look based on fashion finds from GLANCE Front Row fashion project.

Pink being one of my favorite colors, I have been agreeably surprised when Mikee Mokeev showed me her exclusive heels for the fashion event: the pink panther heels are an exclusive recolor from her freshly released “Mstyle XIAOYI Wedge” collection. I paired it with other meticulously crafted items exclusively designed for “Front Row”: the earrings and the necklace from the jewelry set “Lolapop! Macaria Necklace – Rosa” by Lola79 Hienrichs. The platinum chain of the necklace is finished with a delicate fuschia flower. The pearls on the earrings present two nuance of pink for an exquisite result. You will love to be seen with this jewelry set!

While it may sound like a headache to find matching pink tones for the shoes and the clothes with all the stores offering nuances of the color around the grid, some smart designers like London Dailey give you a hint on where to go when you really want it: shop Pink Outfitters! While this is not an RFL item, the “Naturist” tunic in hot pink was matching pretty well the idea I had of a spring/summer look and the large black belt that tops the skirt is easily embellished with the latest release from LaGyo couture house, an infamous fashionista must-have called by designer Gyorgyna Larnia the ”LaGyo Leather tote bag”. I chose it in black.

FR1 450x329 GLANCE Front Row | My Front Row Look #1

Hello fashionistas! I finally found some time this week to present one of my favorite looks based on the numerous fashion treasures created by the charitable designers behind GLANCE Front Row fashion project.

With spring coming up, it’s always a pleasure to find an excuse to wear flowers and the sophisticated dress Janie Marlowe produced for the event is one of the most adorable releases I saw lately on the feeds. The top of “Anna” dress for RFL of SL is made of two layers, a white see-through tank top and an irresistible pink undershirt. The ensemble presents a rustic, pale brown belt to associate with the sculpted pink and white skirt.

FRD1 009 450x334 GLANCE Front Row | My Front Row Look #1

I decided to match the dress with the meticulously designed jewelry set called “Pearlset RFL 2011″ by Mina Nakamura, created specifically for GLANCE Front Row event.
